Kvetka tutorial
First steps | Hotkeys | Main windows | Opening books
Load opening book.    Create new book.
Let's have a look what can be done with the opening book. After it is loaded, the "opening book" window looks as follows:
We can see the following elements:
- For Kvetka's own opening books there will be an opening name in ECO format or some custom description of the position in this place. We will see them in our next tutorial. For other opening books we can only see the word "Position".
- Position diagram.
- Statistics for the position. It starts with the total number of games from the book which contain this position. It is followed by the percentage of games won for white, draws and won for black among the games with given position.
- The list of moves which lead to the position. Each move is clickable. By clicking on it one gets the position straight after the move.
- The list of continuations from the current position. Each item is accompanied with its statistics. The moves are ordered in such a way that statistically better moves go first. As before, each move is clickable.
Remarks: Insread of statistics, each move in Polyglot opening books is accompanied with its rating.
One can manually make a continuation move green or red. Green colour means that the corresponding move is preferrable and red means that the move should be avoided.
- (In Kvetka's own format only) If the book contains only one game with the particular continuation then, instead of the statistics, a link to that game is provided. Click on it to load the corresponding game to Kvetka. We will see how it looks in the next tutorial.
One more feature of opening books - they can provide move recommendations for Kvetka. Usually it is the engine's job to give you a move recommendation. However you can click on "Opening book moves" item in the "Engine" window menu. Than for each move contained in the opening book a recommendation from the book will be given rather than from the engine .
Remark: opening book rating has nothing to do with the standard engine's rating.
Now let's create our own opening book.
